Reading Oasis school reports dramatic increase in expected reading standards!
United Way UK’s Reading Oasis now in 47 schools
Reading for pleasure is a key indicator for success in life, but underrepresented children are the most likely to be excluded from this opportunity and to have missed vital educational and developmental stages as a result of lockdowns.
Before Nightingale School became a United Way UK partner and received a Reading Oasis library, expected reading standard was 60% in 2019.
But Nightingale’s latest SATs results show that Reading Oasis makes a real difference to reading ability.
We’re delighted to report that the school’s average expected reading standard jumped to 93% in 2022 - a huge 33% higher than pre-Reading Oasis!
“To say that I am delighted would be an understatement!” Said Abigail Hopper, Headteacher at Nightingale Primary School. “Thank you so much again United Way, I really don’t think we could have got here without your support and our gorgeous books!”
And we can’t wait to reach more children through our goal of 100 Reading Oasis libraries by 2025!
